Geoffrey Hinton, dubbed the “Godfather of AI,” recently sat down on one of those sleek, dimly-lit podcasts where they pretend it's therapy but everyone’s mic’d up like it’s Love Island: Existential Crisis Edition. He says we may have already lost control of artificial intelligence.
Oh really, Prof?
Just now you're worried?
Let me be clear:
He didn’t just warn them. He built the damn thing.
He is the blueprint—the very architect of deep learning. And now, sipping remorse like a vintage wine, he’s framing himself as the Cassandra of Tech—forever right, forever ignored. Cute. Except this is the same blueprint we’ve seen since the first atom bomb, since every god-tier invention that went south:
Invent it.
Scale it.
Ignore the ones you colonise.
Sound the alarm only after you get tenure and a Netflix doc.
It’s the most classically angmoh move imaginable: set the house on fire, then write a memoir about the flames.
Meanwhile, the rest of us—especially from the developing countries, especially the creatives, the activists, the marginalised—are the ones burning. Our data, our jobs, our truths, our art. Scraped. Synthesised. Sold. And when we protest? We’re told to "adapt" or be left behind.
This isn’t a warning.
This is an obituary for accountability.
I’m not here to roast the man’s mind—his research is legendary. But let’s not make legends out of avoidance. This is not the era for self-mythology. This is the era to decentralise power and reroute the narrative.
So no—I don’t care if you were the Godfather of AI. If you're only speaking up when your legacy is at stake, then you're not leading. You're covering your tracks.
We are not chickens in the coop.
We are the storm knocking on the coop’s door.
If you’re reading this, you’re part of the rewrite.
And if we ever reach Type 1 civilisation, it’ll be in spite of these guilt-ridden builders—not because of them.
